Hello and good Cinco De Mayo! (May 5th)
Hello and spiffy Monday morning to everyone!
As a long suffering Indians fan, I am here to put my spin on the start to the season and my brutally honest assessment of my team’s chances in 2019. Today is April 1st…April Fools Day and as of this morning, the Cleveland Indians are in last place in their division sitting at 1 win and 2 losses. The silver lining is that the season is just begun and the team is only a game out of first place. Continue reading “Waaay to early panic bus edition of Cleveland Indians Baseball 2019”
Good morning…relatively speaking. The build up of anticipation and stress to set up and get my podcast interview with Michele Smith to go smoothly came and went. I navigated the normal work day and made a side trip to acquire a data cable to attach my iPhone XR to the speaker successfully. I arrived home after work and tested the setup for about 20 minutes to make sure everything seemed correct and viable with no issues. With the exception of the blue tooth function with the speaker disconnecting, everything else seemed OK. To circumvent this, I simply plugged in the data cord from the speaker to the iPhone and it worked like a charm.
With the testing and troubleshooting done, I recorded the interview pre-amble and sent Michele a text message to call me when she was ready. She responded that she would call in a few minutes and all that was left to do was wait. After a brief few minutes, Michele Smith calling popped up on my phone! We spoke for a minute or two to get acquainted as this was literally the first time I was talking to her. With my adrenaline flowing, we were now set to record!
As some of you may know, I recently returned from my belated honeymoon/vacation in Cancun, Mexico. The temperatures were fantastic and the beaches were the softest sand I’ve have ever tread upon. Add in the all-inclusive food and drinks within the resort and it was a pretty spiffy time.
Welcome one and all and one again! Today’s topic is the ‘new’ energy drink flavor from Red Bull known as Peach-Nectarine. As a big fan of their Tangerine flavor (orange can) along with the Kiwi-Apple (neon green can), I decided to try a new branch on their energy drink tree: The Peach Edition. It’s OK to relax in here, this is a relative cyber safe zone. But out in the social media realms, all is fair in love and posting. As of today, I noticed that the hashtag (#) PitMad was trending again. I noticed another one a while back and tried my hand at posting a blurb with a potential story. As you may have guessed, I received no bites offering me instant wealth or even an inquiry to offer more details. So today I threw out a story that I have had circulating in the back of my mind for quite some time. Continue reading “PitMad … The Twitter Game?”
Hello. Do you ever just have those days where you feel like a bum? Before people get their hackles up about the term bum, let me clarify what I am trying to convey. Are there times where you feel like your clothing attire is sub-standard to those around you? In this society where everything is psycho-analyzed to the nth degree, it’s getting near impossible to have normal communications without asterisks and pre-managed disclaimers being proffered at every turn.
In a recent podcast (The Freak Show on the Podbean app) from this month, I mentioned a “B” horror movie from the early 1980’s featuring thousands of worms taking out their aggression on the human race when a downed power line sends immeasurable amounts of electricity into the wet ground. Little did I know, until I Googled it, but this movie was actually from 1976! Sorry for the inaccuracy!
Good morning! Today is Wednesday, October 17th. Officially today is day number 25 of Autumn or Fall if you prefer. Pumpkin spice everything is all about and the temps are finally in the 40’s-50’s-60’s. The days are getting shorter and trying to escape the warm bed in the morning to stumble about in the darkness to get ready for work is becoming quite the chore. My mental outlook is getting so critical that I’ve started throwing in a couple of dollars to the Mega Millions lotto crazy pool – presently the Jackpot is estimated at $868,000,000 for the Friday drawing. With that kind of money I could finance a Pitbull music video or something as equally frivolous! Continue reading “Blogging during Autumn 2018”
Here we are again friends. To steal a cute little thing from the local St Louis sports people, the panic bus is gassed up and accepting new passengers. Today is Monday, October 8th. My Indians play game three of their series with the Houston Astros today in Cleveland…and if they don’t find a way to win, their 2018 postseason will amount to the same amount of postseason wins as the Baltimore Orioles.
If we could rewind to last year in game three of the Indians first round series (versus the New York Yankees) in New York for a moment please. The scene: My Indians were trailing 1-0 in the sixth inning when Francisco Lindor hit a sure-fire two-run homerun to right center field. There was just one problem. A six foot seven inch problem with a long arm and the ability to jump a little. Of course I’m speaking of Aaron Judge of the Yankees. His defensive thievery cost the Indians two runs and potentially the game and after that who knows. Continue reading “Cleveland Indians: Playoffs Woes and No’s”
Hello and welcome to my blog! Today is Friday, October 5th. Today begins the postseason path for my Cleveland Indians. As always I am hopeful that my team with be blessed with good fortune, as all dedicated fans hope I’m sure. They are pitted against the defending World Champions, the Houston Astros. Right now they have a one in four chance to make it to the World Series from the American League side. If this is to be THE YEAR, they are certainly going to have to earn it. Standing in their way immediately are the Houston Astros (defending champs). If they should advance, they would play the winner of the Boston Red Sox (best team in the regular season) and New York Yankees (3rd best team in the regular season behind Boston and Houston). As tasks go, this one couldn’t get any more daunting. If they survive the gauntlet of 100 win AL teams, then there is the final test in the World Series against the National League representative. The goal is 11 wins and there are no style points. Any of the 8 teams still alive will gladly take any and all ugly wins they can get. To navigate through the Division series into the League Championship series and finally into the World Series takes a team with great fortitude, talent and a little bit of luck. It’s been two years since my Indians were agonizingly close in that 2016 World Series with the Cubs (after blowing a 3-1 series lead). They got to 10 wins that year…this year I am hoping beyond hope that they make it to 11. We shall see.
Good day to one and all! Hopefully this Friday finds you in good spirits, good health and able to buy one or more items on minimal cost that are enjoyable to be consumed!
As it so happens I was recently attending a baseball game for the Major League Baseball team the St Louis Cardinals. My ticket for entry was given to me for free (which is always nice) and I was able to attend the game with some of the Halbrook family. After going through the stadium’s security ritual, where I was declared safe to enter, I ran into a friend I know through softball. My softball buddy’s name is Patrick and his son Austin was there as well. I have known both of them for a while; I even attended Patrick’s wedding reception earlier this year. Upon seeing Patrick and Austin, we shot the breeze (talked) for a bit before I wandered away to visit the men’s room on the way to my seat for the night. As far as the location of my seat goes, it was pretty good. We were situated about 10-15 rows back from the right field foul pole with a pretty decent view of the playing field and stadium as a whole. Ray Halbrook was delayed entering the stadium with some electronics but later he joined me at our seats. Eventually (about halfway through the game) Jeremy and his dad also joined us. Here is a thought I posted on my Facebook account earlier today. I later screen-shotted it and posted it on Twitter as the character/word length exceeded their posting guidelines.
I anticipate some negativity to flow up onto my shores for posting this and I’m fine with that. Some will that think I am stating that it is OK for people to hate and be negative for no apparent reason. That is not at all what I’m saying. The seed of what I am getting at is that there are individuals throughout the world as we know it that have small-minded thoughts based on upbringing or life experiences or whatever. There are innumerable times during every day that people say things or do things that may be judged as wrong or having malicious intent. I’m not giving those ‘wrong doers’ a pass. Not at all. We should all be accountable for our misdeeds and bad intentions if they cause someone real harm not just butt-hurt feelings. Continue reading “Social (Media) Change in the Year 2018”
Good morning! This morning as I was rolling into work and decided to record my second podcast this week (https://scottlatta.podbean.com/e/sep-20-2018-60/). The main focus of the podcast was me addressing the horrendous traffic that we have been experiencing here lately in the St Louis area. My morning and evening commutes on a ‘normal’ day will usually take about 35 minutes each (roughly guestimating an average). But this week has been traffic ghastly. Auto accidents and stalled cars have been raining from the heavens it seems…without there actually being any physical rain to blame. Adding together my morning commute and evening commute from yesterday, my total drive time was in excess of three hours – easily more than doubling the norm for those combined drive times. Hello! I am an avid follower of my Cleveland Indians, sometimes much to my chagrin. I usually do a piece once or twice per season to ‘break down’ my team’s performance and spotlight where I see concerns heading into the Hunt for October Gold. Many, many years ago I swore a personal oath that I would get a tattoo to commemorate if/when the Indians would win a World Series title in my lifetime. As of this writing, I have no such tattoo…but I’m ever hopeful. And for the record, it will be a full color or black and white rendering of Chief Wahoo. Those people who are offended by a cartoon rendering of an Indian or think that the depiction is offensive…get a clue and a life. I will not apologize for my stance on this topic and you can Google my other pieces that I’ve written detailing why the cartoon image should be left alone.
